We are collaborating with the Vietnamese community to create an enduring commemorative marker to recognise the 50 years of Vietnamese migration to Yarra. The Commemorative Marker will be a tribute to those who undertook the journey to start a new life in Victoria, and a celebration of their remarkable contribution to Victoria Street and the suburbs of Richmond and Abbotsford.

The Commemorative Marker will be completed in 2026.

How to apply

We’re seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from artists who would like to be considered for the commissioning of this significant public realm work. This is Step 1 in a 2 step selection process.

Step 1

Artists are required to respond to questions about their working methodology and provide an artist biography, CV/resume and images of previous works.

EOI’s are due by Friday 4 July 2025 (11:59pm)

Step 2

A short list of artists will be selected from the EOI and will be paid a fee to prepare a detailed Concept Design proposal for for the Commemorative Marker.

Victorian artists who identify as part of the Vietnamese community and/or have lived experience of migration are encouraged to apply. Eligible artists can be in all stages of their career, and work in all media. A strong history of producing works for the public realm is desirable.
