V/Line is seeking suitable organisations with an interest in purchasing and operating one or more of two Y‑class diesel electric locomotives that are excess to V/Line requirements. V/Line seeks to identify organisations who have an acceptable end‑use for the locomotives and are capable of operating and maintaining them.

Tenderers can include entities that are not rail operators, However, before taking possession of a locomotive, a successful Tenderer will be required to demonstrate the pathway via which it will have the locomotive/s operated on the Victorian rail network by a suitably accredited rail operator.

Tenderers should note that V/Line requires that for five years following the Collection Date the successful Tenderer/s will use the locomotives on the Victorian network.

The successful Tenderer/s will be required to enter into a contract agreement with V/Line and report on progress as requested by V/Line.
