Douglas Shire Council is committed to ensuring our natural environment is valued, conserved, and enhanced. Local government-controlled areas and roads (Community Land), including parks and reserves, are vital environmental assets within the region and are in high demand for commercial uses.

This demand requires careful management to ensure that public access to natural areas is preserved and that the region's environmental integrity is protected, while also allowing for commercial activities and opportunities. In addition, the Council aims to provide specific recreational services to the public, enhancing community access to enjoyable and sustainable experiences within these natural spaces.

The Council is seeking qualified commercial operators to provide recreational services on community land through High Use Commercial Activity Approvals, issued under Council’s local laws. These approvals will permit approved businesses to operate on designated areas of Community land, ensuring services meet Council standards for quality, accessibility, and community benefit. Each approval will outline the scope of services, performance standards, and guidelines to protect public interest and environmental sustainability.
