Tender Description

The Rural City of Wangaratta invites interested businesses to submit their proposed purchase pricing (per tonne) for our Council FOGO compost. The product, produced at the Wangaratta Organics Processing Facility is produced for the purpose of soil conditioning/blending and is generally applied at a low rate, improving water retention.

Product benefits:

  • Increases soil organic matter
  • Improves water retention
  • Improves degraded or poor soil structure
  • Environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic fertiliser
  • A valuable source of food for soil microbes
  • Can be used as a soil conditioner or composted mulch

The Expression of Interest (EOI) seeks to establish a trial distributorship for the purpose of urban domestic application (nursery) and also a field trial involving an agricultural application. The EOI will extend for an initial period of 12 months with a further extension of 6 months pending the success of the initial trial.

Currently, Council is seeking a minimum purchase price of $25.00 per tonne. Proposals will be considered in the context of the intent of the market trial, which aims to:

  • Determine the market demand for Council-produced FOGO compost among local nursery distributors and their customers.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the compost in improving soil health and crop yields in agricultural settings relevant to the Wangaratta region.
  • Gather data on application rates, usage patterns, and user feedback within our local market.
  • Assess the potential for establishing a sustainable and commercially viable compost distribution program benefiting the Rural City of Wangaratta.
  • Gather data on any contamination issues that may arise through real-world application by purchasers.
  • Determine the best methods of public education regarding the benefits and proper use of our compost.
