Moira Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates to join the Audit and Risk Committee in July 2025 as an External Independent Member for an initial term of three years.
The Audit and Risk Committee is an independent Advisory Committee established in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020 to provide oversight and appropriate advice to Council on the effective conduct of its responsibilities for financial and performance reporting, risk management and fraud prevention, internal controls and facilitating the organisations ethical development.
The Committee comprises of a maximum of five external independent members and two Administrators who meet each quarter with members of Councils executive team and internal auditors.
Eligibility
Council is looking for members who can demonstrate their skills, experience and qualifications in the following areas:
- financial management and accounting (CA/CPA),
- expertise in risk management and fraud prevention with demonstrated skills understanding of current and emerging risks and best practice controls
- demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislative, regulatory and industry standards
- expertise in environmental, social and governance policies and practices
- strong ethical values and a sense of integrity
- strong communication and interpersonal skills including working collaboratively as part of a committee
Having senior experience in corporate governance and an awareness of the complexity of local government service delivery and infrastructure challenges would be desirable.
All Audit and Risk Committee Meetings are held at the Council Offices in Cobram and the successful candidate is expected to attend in person, including the next scheduled meeting at 9am Thursday 15 July 2025. Virtual attendance to any Committee meetings may be approved by the Chair.
