Tender Description
The City of Whitehorse, spanning 64.2 square kilometres, is home to a current population of 181,049 residents – a number projected to grow to 234,277 by 2046.
With carbon emissions continuing to rise due to population growth and increased vehicle use, the Council is committed to supporting long-term strategies to reduce carbon emissions and support a more sustainable future for the municipality.
Acknowledging the environmental impact of local emissions, the Council developed the WCRP 2023-2026, which outlines strategies and actions aligned with Community Vision Themes to support a more sustainable future.
Under Community Vision Theme 2 of the WCRP, Council’s endeavour is to support an increased uptake of EVs in the community to help reduce carbon emissions.
One practical way to support this endeavor is by expanding the availability of EV charging stations throughout the municipality, ensuring that public spaces, such as shopping centres, council facilities,s are equipped with accessible and convenient charging infrastructure.
Currently, the City of Whitehorse hosts approximately 11 public EV charging stations, with 10 provided by private organisations and one installed by Council at the Harrow Street multi-deck car park in Box Hill. With this initial network in place, Council is working to enhance the coverage of EV charging stations within the local area and encouraging the shift toward cleaner, lower-emission transport options.
