Requirements
The Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) is the Australian Government's interior ministry with responsibilities for national security, law enforcement, emergency management, border control, immigration, refugees, citizenship, transport security, and multicultural affairs. It is an intersection of complex policy, operational, and intelligence functions.
A broad uptake of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and associated technologies in the department has the potential to revolutionise how the department operates and delivers on its mission. The ever-evolving deployment and use of AI in the department must be anchored in policy frameworks that ensure compliance, security, and alignment with organisational goals.
To meet these requirements, Home Affairs aims to establish comprehensive AI usage and governance frameworks, policies, and guidelines that ensure the effective management, security, quality, and compliance of AI systems across the organisation from when the AI systems are created or deployed to when they are decommissioned at the end of their use. This framework encompasses capabilities with regard to business, data, and technology.
As part of this assessment, Home Affairs aims to engage Black Mountain AI (BMAI) to provide their expertise in the design of relevant AI frameworks, police, and guidelines, and to assist Home Affairs in improving the maturity of our AI governance processes.
