Macquarie Wharf 6 Redevelopment Request For Expression of Interest
Tender ID: 581011
Tender Details
Tender Description
The Macquarie Wharf Redevelopment positions Hobart's working port for a new era of Antarctic exploration, scientific research, tourism, export and international trade.
The upgraded facilities across Macquarie Wharf 6 will support expanded scientific initiatives and increased trade and export activities, strengthening Tasmania's economic and strategic ties to the Antarctic and Southern Ocean.
In October 2024, the Commonwealth Government announced its contribution towards constructing and maintaining the new Macquarie Wharf 6, a key component of the Macquarie Wharf Redevelopment. This investment secures Hobart's role as Australia's gateway to the Antarctic, providing a long-term home for the RSV Nuyina. The Commonwealth Government contribution covers both the construction and ongoing operation and maintenance of Macquarie Wharf 6, and should not be deemed representative of the contractor design & construction cost (expected to be a proportion of that contribution).
The Macquarie Wharf 6 Redevelopment is part of a broader staged planned redevelopment of the Macquarie Wharf precinct involving Wharves 4, 5 & 6 and associated landside infrastructure.
TasPorts invites expressions of interest from invitees wishing to participate in a design development and selected tender process for the design and construct contract for the Project (being the MAC 6 Wharf Redevelopment project involving the design and construction of a new wharf at Macquarie Wharf No 6, Hobart).
TasPorts is utilising a two-stage procurement process including the Request For Expression of Interest to shortlist prospective parties who will, subject to execution of a Design Development Agreement, participate in a process for submitting an offer to enter the design and construct contract for the Project (the Design Development Phase).
Under and subject to the Design Development Agreement, each shortlisted party will be paid an amount of $350,000 (excluding GST) to participate in the Design Development Phase and will, in addition to providing the services and associated preliminary design during the Design Development Phase, provide a lump sum offer to enter the design and construct contract for the Project. It is intended that there will be up to three shortlisted participants in the Design Development Phase. TasPorts intends to ultimately select one of the participants in the Design Development Phase to enter into the design and construct contract for the Project.
The Expression of Interest process will seek to:
- Understand the capability, experience and capacity of the invitees that have responded.
- Understand the proposed methodology and management processes of the invitees.
- Understand the invitees proposed approach to the Design Development Phase.
- Understand invitees' approach to Tasmanian industry participation for the Project.
- Understand the financial stability of the invitees that have responded and proposed rates for general items.
- Identify a short list of organisations to participate in the Design Development Phase.
Expression of Interest documents will be available to Contractors through the tendering portal.
