The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) – 2025 Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Grant Opportunity aims to support research that will help to improve quality of life for Australians as they age.
The objectives and outcomes of this grant opportunity align with the Roadmap and Implementation Plan for the Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Mission.
The objective of this grant opportunity is to provide grants of financial assistance to support medical research and medical innovation projects that:
Stream 1 (Priority area 2.3; Targeted Call for Research) conduct implementation research focused on addressing inequalities in uptake of prevention activities for:
- Topic A: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Topic B: rural, regional and remote populations
- Topic C: culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Stream 2 (Priority area 3.1; Targeted Call for Research): conduct implementation research to understand the barriers and enablers to, and impact of, the adoption of the key components of high-quality care for older Australians across:
- care settings
- population groups (either by disease type, age group or other characteristic).
The intended outcome of the research funded by this grant opportunity is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by:
Stream 1 (Priority area 2.3; Targeted Call for Research): implementing interventions that extend healthy, active years of life amongst vulnerable populations.
Stream 2 (Priority area 3.1; Targeted Call for Research): improving implementation of best practice care for older Australians.
This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.

Eligibility:
Applications will only be accepted from approved MRFF Eligible Organisations. A list of approved MRFF Eligible Organisations is available on the NHMRC website.
Applications must satisfy all the requirements set out in the MRFF – Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Mission – 2025 Dementia, Ageing and Aged Care Grant Opportunity Guidelines.
Grant Activity Timeframe: Within 5 years of the execution of the grant schedule.
Total Amount Available (AUD): $24,300,000.00
Estimated Grant Value (AUD): From $0.00 to $5,000,000.00
Instructions for Application Submission:
Applicants are advised to read the Grant Guidelines thoroughly and liaise with the MRFF Eligible Organisation that will submit the application to identify any specific requirements that the Organisation might have.
Applications must be submitted electronically using NHMRC’s online granting system (Sapphire).
Other Instructions:
Minimum Data closes at 5:00pm (ACT Local Time) on 23 July 2025.
Questions should be submitted no later than 1:00pm (ACT Local Time) on 13 August 2025.
