Project goals

The project is for the repair of pile foundation structures of 18 - 66kV overhead transmission line poles located in the tidal waters of Mullet Creek in Wondabyne area. The HV poles for repairs are located to the east of the Main North rail line between 61.000km and 66.000km. Foundation structure of each HV pole consists of a precast, X-shaped capping beam supported by 4 piles. Piles consist of cylindrical steel encased in a protective precast concrete pipe with grout infill. The precast pipe protective casings are having cracking and concrete spalling defects. Repairs are required to restore corrosion protection to the steel piles and capping beams.

Scope

The Project objectives are to:

Carry out repair works of piles and pile caps listed in Condition report and its appendices and install GRP jackets and epoxy injection in accordance with Technical Specification to restore corrosion protection to the steel piles and capping beams.

In delivering the Project, the Contractor must ensure that the completed Project achieves the objectives and Project outcomes by demonstrating the following:

(a) a comprehensive construction methodology including work crew access and material transportation & waste disposal via waterway,

(b) timing of works specified during low tide as per Technical Specification

(c) detailed control measures including any temporary works/ structures required to ensure no adverse environmental impacts on the water body and identified coastal wetlands in the proximity including but not limited to epoxy leakages or spills during the works.;

(d) special consideration required to control impact on two identified coastal wetland areas in the proximity by way of transporting pollutants through culverts across the rail tracks during the times of increasing tide from construction activities and epoxy injection process

Additional details/instructions

The Contractor’s Activities for the Project include, but are not limited to, the planning, procurement, supply, construction, construction assurance and certification by an independent verifier, testing, and handover of all works as per the details provided in the Technical Specification.

Contractor must but not limited to, the following:

(a) minimal effect on existing infrastructure, structures, services, and marine environment

(b) nil effect on train and station operations, minimal effect on ferry services, recreational and resident’s boat movements

(c) installation of all temporary works and enabling works as required to complete works

(d) crew access to pile locations for the works and delivery of material, plant, removal of spoil, waste from the works via waters of Mullet Creek and Hawkesbury River by boat/ barges

(e) environmental control measures/structures required to control/mitigate the environmental impacts identified in the REF.
