This mural project is in response to community wishes to increase the profile of public art across the shire, particularly in Stawell. To help guide this work, council has developed an Arts and Culture Policy 2023 and Public Art Guidelines 2024. Council has also established a Public Art Reference Group who will contribute at various touchpoints along the life of the project.

The mural is to be located on the wall of the Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre adjacent to the new Stawell Skate Park that was unveiled in September 2023.

The Stawell Skate Park and Stawell Sports and Aquatic Centre building are both located in the North Park Precinct. This is a sports and leisure precinct that is home to several sporting activities including football, cricket, netball, soccer and athletics.

This mural artwork project will be required to comply with councils Public Art Guidelines 2024 in that public art serves to enhance the aesthetic quality, cultural vibrancy, and social cohesion of public spaces, reflecting the values, history, and aspirations of the community it represents.
