Via the Hope Research Fund, Lung Foundation Australia is pleased to partner with the Trail to Triumph (TTT) Mesothelioma Ultra Marathon team to offer a PhD Scholarship in Occupational Lung Disease valued at $45,000 +GST over 3 years.
The Lung Foundation Australia Tony Britton Memorial PhD Scholarship is named in honour of the late Mr Tony Britton, an inspiring coach, astute businessperson, generous friend and loving husband, father and grandfather. He dedicated more than 40 years to youth development and community interaction, which saw him named Mackay 2014 Citizen of the Year. In March 2014, Tony lost his battle with mesothelioma, a rare and currently incurable cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Tony’s son Mat has since founded ‘Trail to Triumph: Tony’s Journey’, an annual running event in which participants tackle an arduous 250km journey to commemorate the life of his dad and raise awareness and funds for mesothelioma.
Students with a science, medicine, occupational hygienist background who are about to commence a PhD in any aspect of occupational lung disease research are invited to submit an application.
Grant funding will commence post-notification in Q1 2025. Grant funds may be used to supplement other sources of research funding – see Terms and Conditions for more information.
Projects with a focus on the research priorities identified through the Occupational Lung Disease Priority Setting Partnership facilitated by Lung Foundation Australia are highly encouraged and will be viewed positively by the grant review committee.
Projects with a further focus on priority populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are also highly encouraged.
