Project details

The Monash Medical Centre (MMC) is located at 246 Clayton Road, Clayton.

The MMC is a 640-bed major research and teaching hospital located in Clayton and operating since 1987. It provides a comprehensive range of specialist surgical, medical, allied and mental health services.

In October 2022, the Victorian Government publicly committed funds to build a new seven-story tower above the newly expanded emergency department at the MMC. The announcement included commitment to deliver:

• New operating suites
• New birthing suites
• A new intensive care unit; and
• New inpatient beds.

The Monash Medical Centre Tower Expansion (MMCTE) project will enable the hospital to fulfil its role as a tertiary referral centre for patients.

Provision of Services/Scope of Works

The Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) is seeking to engage a suitably qualified contractor for the Main Works package on the MMCTE project.

The scope of works for this package is planned to include:

• Construction of a seven-storey tower above an operational Emergency Department.
• External works and services to support the new tower development.
• Refurbishment of areas within the existing hospital for Back of House support services.
• Refurbishment of clinical areas to complete new connections between the existing hospital and the new tower.
• Creation of connections between the new tower and the existing hospital campus.

Decant of clinical areas to facilitate construction of the new tower.

Prequalification Requirements

The respondents must be pre-qualified contractors on the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) Construction Supplier Register (CSR) under the following category:

• New Commercial Construction – greater than or equal to $300m

With the following other selectors / experience:

Hospital Experience

Or

Demonstrable similar Hospital brownfield experience of a similar scale and complexity.

Tender Process

The tender process will be conducted as outlined above, with a Request for Tender (RFT) to be issued to pre-qualified participants selected / shortlisted from the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage.

Notes:

1. The expected release location for the RFT will be the Buying for Victoria Supplier Portal (formerly Tenders VIC).
2. Pre-qualification requirements will apply to the tender process. Participants will need to be registered on the DTF Construction Supplier Register with prequalification as outlined above.
