Tenderers are invited to trial suitable RFID hardware and software.
The City of Stonnington (Council) is exploring smart technologies to improve our waste services and meet best practice waste industry standards. Digitisation of waste processes is recognised as a critical action to meet Council’s landfill diversion and circular economy targets. In 2023 Council undertook a three-month trial of RFID technology. The trial installed one RFID reader in a Council Food and Green Waste (FOGO) truck and assessed the ability of the RFID system to accuracy report bin collection events. The trial has proven the RFID system’s ability to accurately report when (date and time) a bin was collected. Additionally, the trial has revealed several learnings and opportunities for improvement.
This next phase of the RFID project will address these learnings and seek to identify further (if any) enhancements or efficiencies that may be gained through the RFID system.
The results of this trial will be used to refine and finalise Council’s RFID business case.
