Tender Description
A vacancy exists for an independent member of Murrindindi Shire Council's Audit and Risk Committee. The appointment will commence in August 2024 for an initial term of three years ending 30 June 2027. Council provides an honorarium which is currently set at $2,000 per year.
Audit and Risk Committee meetings are held in March, May, September and December annually. There is an expectation that members will make every effort to attend meetings either in person or virtually and come prepared having read the meeting papers.
Context
The Audit and Risk Committee (the Committee) is an independent advisory committee of Council, established under section 53 of the Local Government Act 2020 (the Act) to provide oversight, guidance and assurance to Council and Council’s Executive.
The Committee is appointed by Council and membership includes five voting members - three independent members and two representatives of Council, with an independent member Chair.
The key responsibilities of the Committee are governed under its Charter, wand include:
- monitoring Council's compliance with the overarching governance principles in the Act, the Act itself and any regulations and ministerial directions
- monitoring Council's financial and performance reporting
- monitoring and providing advice on Council's risk management and fraud prevention systems
- overseeing internal and external audit functions
Key Selection Criteria
Council is looking for someone with a strong understanding of corporate governance, financial reporting and enterprise risk management, preferably with experience serving on similar committees or boards for either public or private entities or Not-For-Profit organisations.
The following areas of expertise are preferred:
- Local Government experience or familiarity
- Financial Planning and Management
- Enterprise Risk Management
The Audit and Risk Committee places a priority on having a gender balanced representation in its membership, Council will take this into account when appointing new members.
