Kananook Creek is located in the Frankston City local government area (LGA) on the eastern shores of Port Philip Bay, approximately 40 km from Melbourne City. Kananook Creek is a coastal tributary, draining a low lying area along the coastal fringe of the South East suburbs. The Creek entrance is trained by vertical walls extending approximately 20m from the shoreline and located amidst a popular beach and boating area which includes the Frankston Boat Ramp (approximately 100 m upstream from entrance).
Maintenance dredging of Kananook Creek entrance is required to provide access to Port Phillip Bay for boating, especially for recreational craft launching from the Frankston Boat Ramp. Maintenance dredging of the Creek entrance has been undertaken historically using various approaches to maintain the navigational channel open.
