Project Background

As part of the P144 planning at RMH the decision was made to repurpose the existing 8 neuropsychiatry inpatient beds on John Cade Level 2 as 8 new adult General Care Area (GCA) beds. The neuropsychiatry beds were to be relocated to an alternative location.

Various options for relocating the Neuropsychiatry program were explored with RMH advising the Victorian Health Building Authority (VHBA) on 20 April 2022 that a feasibility assessment completed by the RMH capital planning team, had identified that the preferred option was to decant the existing JCU2 outpatient services to 635 Elizabeth Street, and re-establish the neuropsychiatry inpatient beds within the John Cade Unit.

Neuropsychiatry Unit Scope:

  • 6 x bedrooms with ensuite
  • Activity Room
  • Dining Room
  • Lounge
  • Kitchen
  • Nursing Station

Note: Bedrooms, ensuites and identified high risk areas to be fitted out with door top alarms and anti-ligature fittings. Consumer bedrooms to have door self-control. Walls to have full height protection and vinyl floors throughout coved up walls.

Support Services Scope:

  • 2 x 1 person offices (NUM / CS Director)
  • 1 x consult room
  • 20 x workstations

Note: works will be staged to ensure that all critical support functions have accommodation during the works.
