Expressions of interest are open for an Aotearoa New Zealand Dermatologist Fellow RACP Representative to join Medical Council of NZ (MCNZ) Expert Advisory Group.
Description
Te Kaunihera Rata o Aotearoa | Medical Council of New Zealand (Council) is in the early stages of reviewing how to ensure that doctors who undertake category 1 and category 2 cosmetic procedures practice safely and ethically and that they have the appropriate education and training to do so. Council also wants to ensure that it is clear to the public who is able to undertake such procedures. We will therefore be looking at what information might appear on the Register, to enhance public confidence in the regulation and provision of cosmetic procedures.
We are setting up an Expert Advisory Group to help guide this work and would like to invite a specialist dermatologist representative to join the group. We are looking for a FRACP who:
- has a thorough understanding of the specialty of dermatology
- has up to date knowledge of vocational training in dermatology, including the curriculum, assessments, and any cosmetic procedural skills taught as standard.
- ideally, is currently practicing as a dermatologist.
The Fellow does not need to have a specific interest in cosmetic medicine, as the purpose of the EAG is to determine which cosmetic procedures are standard practice within existing scopes and how they are managed in that context. This will help inform Council requirements for all those performing cosmetic procedures.
There will be approximately four meetings over the course of this year. Meetings will be virtual, usually 1.5 hours in length, and will require an hour or so preparation. Preparation time and meeting attendance will be paid at $140 per hour.
