Austroads is undertaking project NEG6440 to:

• Support road managers to obtain accurate insights into current usage of their networks for a range of different vehicle types, including the utilisation of evolving data collection technologies.

• Identify suitable solution(s) for bicycle (and micromobility) detection systems at traffic signalised intersections.

The project will publish an updated classification scheme that evolves the recently published Austroads-23 scheme and which includes a full set of road user types, from heavy vehicles through to active transport.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) is to identify vendors and service providers interested in participating in an Industry Reference Group (IRG).

The primary purpose of the IRG is to provide industry feedback during the development and refinement of the classification scheme and supporting implementation guidance.

A secondary purpose of the IRG is to facilitate involvement of interested vendors and service in the field testing activities within NEG6440. It will remain at the discretion of NEG6440 IRG members as to whether they wish to participate in the field testing.

SCOPE AND TIMING:

The IRG will be a voluntary, unpaid group to complement the delivery packages by consultants who will retain full accountability for their work. The IRG is a consultative feedback forum and does not have a formal approval function.

IRG members will have an opportunity to attend a small to moderate number occasional meetings or workshops. IRG members may also have an opportunity to provide written feedback on some aspects of the proposed classification scheme and / or implementation guidelines. Meetings and feedback opportunities are expected to occur between mid-2024 and mid-2025.
