Tender Description

AgriFutures Australia is seeking a service provider to conduct an in-depth analysis and provide insights into revenue opportunities for producers and industries to target value-add, export and niche markets to improve revenue and manage production risk.

Background:

The New Enterprises program fits within Priority 8 Identifying New Revenue Streams of the current AgriFutures Australia Research and Innovation Strategic Plan 2022-2027 with the remit of identifying new revenue streams for farmers. It builds on the thinking of diversifying farming and supply chain activities to increase the profitability and resilience of enterprises across Australian agriculture. Activities will explore innovative business models and options for complementary use of resources to improve income and manage production risk.

The New Enterprises program fits within the Rural Futures business unit in AgriFutures Australia. Rural Futures addresses national challenges and opportunities, emerging industries and workforce and leadership with priorities aimed at responding to global megatrends, sector vulnerabilities, and public policy factors affecting the growth, sustainability, and resilience of Australian rural industries.

In alignment with the AgriFutures Australia’s Annual Operational Plan 2023-2024 and the Rural Futures Strategic RD&E Plan 2023-2027, the New Enterprises program conducted a scoping study to identify potential new revenue streams for AgriFutures’ 13 levied and 15 emerging industries. Six key drivers and enablers of revenue growth were identified and were used to define the focus areas of investment for the New Enterprises Strategy. These drivers are (i) consumer expectations; (ii) collaborating along and across value chains; (iii) value-add, export and niche markets; (iv) carbon, biodiversity, and natural capital markets; (v) genetics; and (vi) AgTech. The focus of this RFQ is to gain an in-depth understanding of the revenue opportunities available from (iii) value-add, export and niche markets.

AgriFutures Australia is seeking a service provider to conduct an in-depth analysis and provide insights into revenue opportunities for producers and industries to target value-add, export and niche markets to improve revenue and manage production risk.

The development of new value-add, export, and niche markets presents a significant opportunity for Australia’s rural industries due to its potential to diversify revenue streams, enhance profitability, and reduce dependence on traditional markets. By modifying and adapting products to create product differentiation or meet the compliance requirements, industries can target new revenue opportunities within these markets to improve income and manage production risk, ultimately leading to more resilient and viable agricultural industries.

This project aims to identify a collection of feasible value-add, export and niche market opportunities for agricultural, fishery and forestry industries to improve revenue and manage production risk.

The objective is to define key areas for AgriFutures investment to empower farmers, fishers, and foresters to adopt potential new revenue streams arising from value-add, export and niche markets.

The success of this project will be measured by the depth of insights provided, the relevance and practicality of recommendations for producers and AgriFutures potential investments, and the effectiveness of knowledge dissemination in enhancing industry preparedness to target value-add, export and niche market opportunities.
