Hunter Water operates and manages a network of 77 service reservoirs, 465 pumping stations, 19 wastewater treatment works, two dams, two groundwater bore fields and 10,000 kilometres of water and sewer mains. Hunter Water's area of operations extends across the council regions of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, Port Stephens, Dungog and small parts of Singleton.

We routinely undertake maintenance, upgrades and construction work on these assets. These works have the potential to impact the environment, and therefore require assessment under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act).

As a State-Owned Corporation, we are a determining authority for the purposes of administering works under Division 5.1 of the EP&A Act. We routinely prepare environmental impact assessments, largely Review of Environmental Factors (REF), to consider the impacts of proposed activities using our minor works REF template.

To ensure that works undertaken by Hunter Water meet these requirements we are seeking to establish a panel of preferred suppliers to provide minor works environmental impact assessment services for up to a four (4) year period
