Bayside Council (Council) is located on the shores of historic Botany Bay between 7km - 12km from the Sydney CBD and covers an area of 50km2 bounded by South Coogee, Chifley and Port Botany to the east, Cooks River to the north, Georges River to the south and Kingsgrove to the west. The area is highly urbanized with a strategic position in relation to the major transport corridors to Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport, Sydney CBD and Port Botany. Major roads in the area include General Holmes Drive, the Princes Highway, the Grand Parade, President Avenue, Forrest Road, Marsh Street, Wickham Street, Botany Road and Stoney Creek Road.

An established area, Bayside’s population growth has been relatively stable.

A key feature of the Bayside area is the Barton Park Precinct (Barton Park). Barton Park sporting fields and stadium were first utilized as footballing fields in 1978 and were the home ground of the semi-professional football club, St George Budapest now known as the St George Football Club. The Club had previously played in the top tier football leagues known as the National Soccer League. In 2006, the Club played their last game at Barton Park utilizing the stadium for seating, with seasonal annual permitted use of the main and outer fields in the following years.

In 2022, Council commenced the approved upgrades to Barton Park which includes the construction of three full size turf football fields with lighting, a new grandstand for Field 1, sporting amenities, four tennis courts including a tennis storeroom, car parking and two multipurpose courts (Project).

Council is seeking expressions of interest to license one or more of the three premises forming part of Barton Park (i.e. the Premises) for the Permitted Uses once works associated with the Project are complete. Council anticipates that these works will be complete on or around June 2024.
