Tender Description

The University of Adelaide invites you to participate in a Request for Quote for the provision of some vineyard management activities to the University in accordance with the rules and requirements set out in this Request for Quote.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY

The University of Adelaide, established in 1874, has over 25,000 students and 3,500 staff and researchers. The University has a strong reputation internationally as a leading research and teaching institution.

ABOUT THE QUOTE

The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine represents a world-class concentration of scientific research, education and product conferring capability, with infrastructure and resources at the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide with a number of research partners.

The School is the centrepiece of the Southern Hemisphere's largest collection of expertise in plant genomics, crop improvement, sustainable agriculture, animal science, dryland farming, horticulture, viticulture and oenology.

The total area to be managed covers approximately 7.8 Ha. The area is divided into two separate areas. The Alverstoke Orchard covers a total 4 Ha: including 3.7 ha of 17 different fruit tree species and two vineyard blocks of approximately 0.5 Ha each and propagation facilities. The Coombe Vineyard covers approximately 3.8Ha with 2.25Ha of Vitis vinifera cultivars and other Vitis spp.

There are 15 different Vitis vinifera cultivars grown for student use in Winemaking at Vintage and general teaching and research. Each of these varieties represents a different set of challenges as it responds to its environment and the management imposed upon it. Likewise, the orchard area presents similar challenges. Broadly speaking there are many discreet areas which require individualised management (e.g. pruning, canopy manipulation, irrigation schedules, mid-row crops etc.). On the other hand, some management procedures remain largely uniform (e.g. fungicide programs, soil cultivation, weed control).

The University is looking to procure some of the activities required during an annual vineyard management plan while others will continue to be performed by University' students and staff. A full list and description of the particular tasks will be provided in Annexure 1 Scope of Goods/Services ("Specification").

The term of the Contract between the University and the selected Supplier is proposed to commence on 1 June 2024 for an initial two (2) years, with an additional two-year option for extension upon successful review.
