Tender Description
The city of Stonnington youth services is looking for 2 Artists to mentor a group of 4 young people to create and paint a traffic signal box mural.
The program involves 4 x 2 hour sessions where you will help support the group in designing a mural that is subject to council approval
Which then is painted on 2 x Saturdays to produce the mural.
All artistic materials, communication. organization and safety materials for the program is provided by Stonington youth services.
Your primary job is to support and guide young people to create 2 murals per Mentor
The dates and times for this program are ( Mentors must be available for all dates!)
Workshops:
1-Tues 24th Oct (5-7pm)
2-Tuesday 31st Oct (5-7pm)
3-Tues 14thth Nov (5-7pm)
4-Tues 21st Nov (5-7pm)
Paint Days:
1-Saturday 25th November 10am
2- Saturday 2nd December 10am 2023

Session 1 24/10/23
Welcome & Introductions
• Introduce Artists & Young People
• Explain program & expectations
• breakdown what is happening in each workshop
• The Timeline i.e. art work needs to be approved after workshop 2
o Don’t do anything overly complicated as there’s only one day to paint
o Can’t look or confusing drivers as a road sign/instruction – no block colours of red, green, yellow - work around is that you can put that on footpath side
o Nothing offensive
Split off into 2 groups
• Artists to support young people to tease out their design ideas either 1:1 or as 3. However artist would prefer
• Provide photos of each young person’s TSB
• Provide outlines so young people can start working on their designs
Session 2 31/10/23
Young People and their artist mentors will work together to finalise their design
Session 3 14/11/23
Selecting Materials for SYS Worker to supply
• Artists and young people will work together to create a list of what each young person needs i.e. paint colours, particular brushes etc.
• Artists and young people will go through SYS supplies in youth drop in and select what equipment/supplies they’ll use popping it in individually named canvas bags
• Artists and young people will then create a list of other supplies they need from suppliers:
o Bunnings
o Union Heights
o Eckersleys
Artists and Young People to make a plan how’d they’d like to tackle painting TSB – i.e. which parts might be best to paint first
Session 4 21/12/23
Practical Practice Run
• Young People will have the opportunity paint a piece of plywood. This is an opportunity for them to practice using a median i.e. aersols that they may not be practiced in or test out tricker parts of their design/scaling
They can revise their plan/paint choices etc as necessary
Session 5 25/11/23
Paint Day 1
How it works:
• 2 young people on each day working 1:1 with their mentor artist
• 10 am start and must be finished by 5pm
• The Young Person who needs the most time to start at 9 and other young person to start at 10am.
• Young people and Artists are to meet on location at allocated time (SYS staff to bring resources)
