In the October 2022-23 Budget, the Federal Government announced funding to support traceability database upgrades as a part of the biosecurity package ‘Bolstering Australia’s biosecurity system’. ISC has been liaising with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry regarding this funding and a grant proposal has been prepared by ISC for the build of a new platform to replace the current NLIS database. As a vital resource in underpinning biosecurity and market access, the build of a new national livestock traceability platform will ensure that there is a fit-for-purpose data capture, storage and distribution system for tracking livestock and their movements. The new platform will provide improved interoperability in being able to accommodate additional data inputs from other systems. For example, to assist in being able to demonstrate Australia’s agricultural credentials and compliance with international market access requirements such as sustainability and animal welfare. ISC is provisionally seeking organisations to deliver a 4 to 6-month project to assess the current state NLIS and to deliver the future state definition for the uplift of the NLIS database, which will be informed by the Strategic Discovery phase that is currently underway.
