Tender Description

ABOUT THE CITY OF LAKE MACQUARIE:

Lake Macquarie is the Hunter Region's largest city, accounting for 38% of the Lower Hunter population. With the city's current population fast approaching 205,000 Lake Macquarie is also the third largest regional city in New South Wales by population. Moreover, the city's population is expected to grow by 28,000 by 2036, creating a demand for 13,500 new dwellings and associated infrastructure.

ABOUT THE TENDER

Awaba House is a Lake Macquarie City Council (Council) owned historic building, adjacent to the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang (MAC), on the shores of Lake Macquarie at Booragul. The building was badly damaged by fire in 2019. Based on community consultation, Council is proceeding with plans to retain and restore the historically significant external form and features of the building, with contemporary additions and changes to the internal layout allowing for a modern cafe/restaurant/function space.

The project will deliver a vibrant dining experience for our city; create a major drawcard for visitors and locals, and pay respect to the important heritage elements of the building that can be restored.

Awaba House Revitalisation project plans include:

- modern interior fit-out to include a cafe and separate function room overlooking Lake Macquarie

- maintain the building's heritage facade

- new terrace area for outdoor dining

- new decking in front of the building to provide a ceremony area for weddings and other events

- new footpath winding its way around the building connecting to the MAC.

A more detailed description of the proposed Works is included in the Tender package.
