Tender Description

Expression of Interest

During the 2022 Victorian election, the Victorian Government committed a $4 million investment for Bendigo Kangan Institute to establish the Castlemaine Community Health and Learning Hub (Hub) which will be used as a training facility for nursing students. In consultation with Castlemaine Health, the course offerings would include training in Personal Care, Ageing Care, General Nursing, Disability, and Family Violence Telehealth.

The Hub initiative will build on a co-located local community partnership with Castlemaine Health to deliver BKI’s health and community services qualifications, leveraging flexible and state of the art digital delivery. This collaboration will leverage a shared education environment offering blended learning, also known as hybrid learning. Hybrid learning combines online educational materials as well as opportunities for interaction online, with traditional face-to-face classroom methods.

The funding will be used to refurbish a disused wing of the hospital located at 142 Cornish Street, Castlemaine which is owned by Castlemaine Health as a training facility for nursing students. BKI will lease this area from Castlemaine Health.

This collaboration with Castlemaine Health has the potential to deliver significant benefits including student placements, opportunities for innovation incubation, access to industry advisory groups, and expert in-residence advice, making a real difference for students and industry across the regional communities where Bendigo TAFE serves.

The Castlemaine Health and Learning Hub learning spaces will be designed to:

  • Respond to local industry focus areas.
  • Support contemporary learning and teaching practices with a focus on active, student-centered learning.
  • Facilitate collaboration and teamwork amongst students, educators, industry, and community partners.
  • Support the remote delivery of programs to students

The project will be benchmarked against Bendigo Kangan Institute’s Essendon Health Hub.
