Public Bin Surrounds Standardisation Stage 2 and 3

⁠⁠⁠Hobsons Bay City Council (HBCC) has commenced to standardise its public bins throughout the municipality through changes to its services, bin locations, and types of waste bins available to the public. These new bins are being implemented in the public bin area to match the residential waste space and align with goals set out in the waste and litter strategy for 2025, including strengthening community behaviour change and providing a cleaner Hobsons Bay.

This is a 3-year program. HBCC has completed Stage 1 in FY21/22, which included the delivery and installation of 204 bin surrounds. Council will now progress to stages 2 and 3 to deliver an additional 200 bins. This tender is for stages 2 and 3, with $200,000 allocated in FY 22/23 for stage 2 and $550,000 FY 23/24 for stage 3. $35k allocated for stage 3 will be brought forward into FY 22/23.

As part of stage 1, community consultation was done online via participate page, and this also included lists of new bin locations. Stage 2 consultation will be done online, adopting the same process.

This tender will be a public tender to find a contractor with the right qualifications and experience to make 200 bins. As part of stage 2 a second round of shop drawings will be undertaken as well as a second prototype constructed at the depot for input from the HBCC operations team. All feedback, along with lessons learnt from stage 1 will be incorporated into stage 2

The scope of work consists of shop drawings, fabrication, and delivery of bins.
