The AgriFutures Emerging Industries Program is calling for small to medium businesses within emerging industries that have an idea to alleviate a key industry issue that could be solved through a ‘non-traditional’ research project. For example, these could include ideas that trial a new technology to address an industry issue or work to reduce an export trade barrier.
Background
The AgriFutures Emerging Industries Program helps grow up-and-coming rural industries for which there is a clear interest in their products, but whose pathway for growth is unchartered. We do this through research that explores opportunities for growth and through skill development for industry leaders. Our goal is to sustainably grow developing rural industries and help them reach new markets.
The objective of the Business Innovation Grant is to fund projects through the AgriFutures Emerging Industries Program that help resolve key industry issues that are inhibiting growth within Australia’s new and emerging agricultural industries. It is expected that by alleviating a key industry issue, supply and/or demand for the emerging industry’s product/s will increase, and subsequently help the growth of the industry’s annual gross value of production (GVP).
Examples of projects may include, but are not limited to:
- Trialling a new method of processing
- Developing and trialling a new value-added product
- Adapting and trialling equipment from other industries
- Facilitation of knowledge sharing activities.
It will be beneficial to applicants if their grant project addresses ecosystems such as solar, hydrogen, environment, carbon, biodiversity etc. within emerging Australian industries.
The intended outcome, of individual projects and the overall Business Innovation Grant program, is to contribute to growth within Australia’s new and emerging agricultural industries.
