This program provides funding to organisations to help unlock the role that neighbourhood batteries can play in Victoria's transitioning electricity scheme.

Overview
This program aims to:
- support understanding of the full range of benefits that neighbourhood scale batteries can provide
- help to overcome barriers to the deployment of neighbourhood scale batteries
- inform regulatory reform
- determine which neighbourhood scale battery models provide the most benefits to the Victorian electricity system
- assist optimisation of distributed energy generation within the low voltage network
- support the decarbonisation of Victoria’s electricity system to tackle climate change.
Projects should demonstrate the implementation of a neighbourhood scale battery (including installation and commissioning) that demonstrates the ability to access multiple value streams.
Value streams may include wholesale market arbitrage, payments from Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) or other sources of revenue.
Neighbourhood-scale batteries range in size from approximately 100 kW to 5 MW.
What are the eligibility criteria?
Applications are open to a broad range of organisations and can include single entities or a consortium of participants, including:
- private sector businesses and agencies
- educational institutions
- local governments
- not-for-profits.
Additionally, applicants must:
- be an incorporated body, cooperative or association (including business associations)
- be financially solvent
- if the lead applicant, have an Australian business number (ABN) and at least 3 years operating history.
