The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa is in the final stage of a multi-year project to upgrade and modernise its escalator and elevators. The Main Entry Glass Elevator (Lift 9) is the next stage of the project, scheduled for full replacement in late 2022. Working with Kone, who will remove and replace the existing lift, this project requires the removal of the existing lift shaft structure and the fabrication and installation of a new structural steel frame to support the new lift rails. It will also require the replacement or refurbishment of the shaft walls after installation of the steel frame and new lift.

Te Papa is looking for a Main Contractor to undertake the fabrication and installation of a steel structure to support both rails, as well as lifting beams to allow for the installation of the new lift. To allow for installation, the contractor will need to remove the existing shaft structure and walls, then reinstate these walls according to designs provided by Te Papa.

The purpose of this ROI is to shortlist suitable contractors in preparation to price the required work in a Request for Proposal (RFP) to be issued once engineering drawings and further design detail are available.
