Geoscience Australia has committed to improving its cyber security posture and is seeking the services of a cyber-security specialist to provide detailed technical advice to our operations and governance teams to enable secure business objectives. The technical specialist will also provide advice to the Director Cyber Security for project planning and support Essential Eight uplift initiatives. The role will work with the Cyber Team and partners, Cloud Enablement Team and individual business areas as required.

Our environment includes a mix of outsourced services, in-house system development, cloud infrastructure as a service, and unique scientific organisational requirements supported by a practical governance and assurance capability.

Activities to be undertaken by the successful candidate are expected to include:

• Research of technical solutions to meet business and security needs;
• Development of technical requirements to support requests for quotes or project planning activities;
• Provide detailed technical security advice to the Cyber Team and stakeholders;
• Management of small scale technical implementations in collaboration with service providers;
• Assisting with technical verification of implemented or proposed controls;
• Use tools such as PowerShell and Tenable IO to provide supporting data for decisions;
• Provide advice on practical solutions to Essential Eight guidance.
