Independent Chairperson Audit Committee

⁠⁠⁠Burdekin Shire Council is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the vacancy of Independent Chairperson on the Audit Committee.

The Audit Committee is a source of independent advice to the Council and the CEO regarding finance, governance, risk management and audit related matters.

The Independent Chairperson must not be a current or former Councillor or staff member of Burdekin Shire Council within the past eight (8) years. They must be generally of good character and free of any criminal convictions. They need not reside in the Burdekin Shire Local Government Area. They must hold duly recognised professional qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business or Risk Management and should be sufficiently experienced in business or organisational management so as to be able to lead the business and functions of the Committee.

The Chair shall also promote effective communications between the Audit Committee and Council, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), other senior management, and the internal and external audit functions. Currently Council's external auditor (as appointed by QAO) is Crowe and the contracted internal auditors are BDO North Queensland. The Chair shall ensure the Audit Committee meetings are run smoothly and that the views of all members and attendees are heard, and that the agenda and meeting papers properly reflect proceedings. They must be able and willing to subscribe Burdekin Shire Council's Code of Conduct.

The committee generally meets five times each year. Further details about the remuneration rate can be found in the Charter.
Applicants must either hold a current ABN or be willing to apply for one. Successful candidates will be required to submit an invoice for each committee meeting attendance.
