Tender Description

Sporting clubs and community groups are being encouraged to apply for funding through the City of Mandurah to help hold events that attract visitors and showcase the local lifestyle.

The 2021/22 Community Event Support Grant assists non-profit clubs and community groups to organise events that demonstrate significant economic and social benefits by encouraging attendance and participation, engaging local businesses and helping to create a more vibrant city.

Up to $3000 can be awarded for each event from a total annual pool of $30,000. Eleven local groups are set to receive funding as part of the first round of grants.

The Mandurah Triathlon Club will use its funding to help cover the costs of the annual State Interclub Championships, which will be held in Halls Head on January 9, 2022.

The Club’s race director Anthony Powe said the event attracted close to 13 clubs each year from Esperance to Kalgoorlie, with competitors making their way to Mandurah to compete in the ‘sprint distance’ triathlon.

“The event is in its 29th year, and it gets stronger every year. In 2020 we had more than 400 competitors,” Mr Powe said. “We get some great feedback from people coming to Mandurah for the race. They love it here and it’s a great race to come and enjoy a day trip, but also a great opportunity to come and stay the night. The race starts early in the day, so some competitors stay the night before, and many stay for a late breakfast or brunch at the local cafes after the race."

The Community Event Support Grant will go towards the race’s logistics including road closures, paramedics, and water safety.

Applications for the Community Event Support Grant are now open, and close on January 17. For more information go to https://www.mandurah.wa.gov.au/grants
