Bryan Martyn Oval is located on the corner of Market and Derwent Street in Newport and accommodates Cricket, Football and Netball. The pavilion is located at the northern end of the oval, constructed in the 1980s and extensions of change rooms were added in 2010. A building inspection on the pavilion conducted in 2015 recommended some structural improvements and defect repairs.
The pavilion is home to three tenants, Newport Power Football Club, Newport Digman Cricket Club and the Newport Power Netball Club.
A grant has been approved for Bryan Martin Oval – Pavilion Redevelopment by Sports Recreation Victoria. This grant is to be used for: “upgrading of the change rooms, public amenities, kitchen, umpire’s rooms, social spaces and improvements to storage provision for tenant clubs.”
Bryan Martin Oval building renewal will see a number of works completed on the pavilion in order to grant more accessibility and usable space to the three tenants, these works include:
- General renewal works including cladding/painting/rendering of brick walls inside and outside the pavilion.
- Renewal of all toilet and shower areas, including male/female toilets and change rooms. Accessible toilet redevelopment.
- Inclusion of additional storage areas for three clubs
- Inclusion of additional hand sink in kitchen
- Other works as identified through recent building audit process
- Install a suitable air conditioning system into the social room.
- Provision of external rubbish cage
- External water filling station
