Tender ID: 474269
Tender Details
Tender Description
In response to concerns around young people and gambling, and gaps within the literature, the Office commissioned the NSW Youth Gambling Study 2020. The study included qualitative and quantitative research to explore and understand gambling and simulated gambling among young people.
The study found a considerable proportion of young people are participating in gambling (29.8% in the last 12 months), as well as simulated gambling (40.1% in the last 12 months). The research also provided valuable insights into problems related to gambling and gambling like activities, as well as personal, parental, peer and environmental factors associated with these behaviours.
The findings from the 2020 youth study are directly informing the work of the Office, including the development and promotion of gambling-related resources for parents, schools and teachers.
The Office is now looking to commission a second phase of the youth gambling research for 2022. The 2022 research will build on the key findings of the first study and develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding of youth gambling. The research will continue to inform policy and regulatory advice, to reduce gambling related harm.
