Lake Kimihia Restoration Project Bund and Weir Construction

⁠⁠⁠Waikato Regional Council (Council) invites tenders for the Lake Kimihia Restoration Project Bund and Weir Construction. This Tender is for the construction of a bund and a weir, installation of two culverts, and construction of an accessway within a private property at 12 Perry Lane, Huntly.

The purpose of this project is to reinstate the minimum water level of Lake Kimihia to 8.0m MVD, and to deliver on the cultural and ecological aspirations for the site. This includes improving the aquatic habitat for fish species and increasing the size and condition of the wetland margins, resulting in greater biodiversity and recreational values for the site.

In response to COVID-19, the Government called for ‘shovel ready’ infrastructure and environmental restoration projects to stimulate the construction and environmental industries and economy, be of public or regional benefit, and create jobs. This project is part of the Shovel Ready programme of work and is therefore an opportunity to be part of Council’s Covid Recovery response.
