Tender Description

Under the Indigenous Boarding Providers open competitive grant opportunity guidelines, the National Indigenous Australians Agency (the Agency or NIAA) invites boarding providers with a high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students from remote and very remote areas to apply for grant funding.

To be eligible for a grant under the Indigenous Boarding Providers grant opportunity, you must:

  • be an established boarding school, hostel, stand-alone or independent boarding facility targeted at supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students from remote or very remote Australia, and
  • have a high proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students from remote and very remote areas attending your facility.

A 'high proportion' is considered to be 40% to 100% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students from remote and very remote Australia. Preference will be given to boarding providers with a higher proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander secondary students from remote/very remote areas, however lower proportions may be considered where there is significant demonstrated need. Students supported through these grants should be entitled to ABSTUDY Away from Home payments.

Grants will assist boarding providers to support secondary students to reconnect to school following the impacts of COVID-19 and will enable boarding providers to better address the education, health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boarding students and keep them engaged in school. This grant opportunity will provide funding for activities to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boarding students throughout the 2022 calendar year. Grants may also be used for activities undertaken ahead of 2022, for example activities that support students to transition into or prepare for the school year.
