Mala'ala Road Services Relocation and Protection Works, Drainage Works and Road Work

⁠⁠⁠The Mala'ala Road (mallabam road) upgrade comprises of road reconstruction and associated earthworks, including five T-junction reinstatements. The road itself has been re-aligned vertically and horizontally in parts to work within the existing road reserve and in accordance with good practice road design. Construction of the road itself comprises a two-coat spray seal wearing course over 2x unbound natural gravel basecourse and sub-base layers in accordance with DIPL pavement material specifications.

Road side table drains of varying depth are included in the typical road cross section providing a designated drainage route for both runoff shed from Mala'ala Road as well as upper catchment flows to be conveyed to the lower regions of the catchment and away from Mala'ala Road. A number of proposed and existing drainage box culverts and associated headwalls provide flow continuity under roads and junctions, in addition to multiple proposed existing culvert modifications where flow capacity or culvert length is required to be increased. Rock pads have been provided at each of the culvert openings to prevent scour of the table drains.

A number of existing underground and overhead services have been identified within the existing road reserve. These are inclusive of, but not limited to water, telecommunications, drainage, sewer, fuel pipeline and high voltage electrical (overhead). A number of these services have been identified as being impacted by the proposed road upgrade and drainage works and are to be relocated by the contractor through coordination with and approval by the relevant service authority. It should be noted that service depths provided are indicative only and are to be confirmed through physical verification by potholing by the contractor prior to construction.
