Tender Description
The Australian Army Research Centre is seeking service providers to undertake paid research on topics that will inform future land force development and modernisation. The research outcomes sought are either articles (3,000 to 5,000 words) or stand-alone papers (10,000 to 20,000 words). Army will facilitate publication of research in the first instance in either the Australian Army Journal or the Army Research Papers Series. Topical areas of current research interest to Army include:
The Army Research Scheme’s focus and funding is based on the questions listed.
Question 1: In the face of the present challenges to regional security, what opportunities are there for the Australian Army to help secure the Nation’s sovereignty?
Question 2: How should the Australian Army, as part of the Joint and Integrated Force, prepare for the future operational environment?
Question 3: What are the likely future trends in strategic competition and what are the implications for military modernisation?
Question 4: How will threats to human security from social, economic and environmental issues affect the tasks required of the Australian Army?
Question 5: In an environment of rapid change, how does the Australian Army attain a competitive edge?
Question 6: How can the Australian Army contribute to the development of a resilient national industrial technological support base?
Question 7: How can the Australian Army build man-machine trust in a future in which artificial intelligence may play a significant role in warfare?
Question 8: In a climate-disrupted future, how can the Australian Army secure a relative advantage over potential adversaries?
Question 9: How can the Australian Army best support Government to compete in the ‘Grey Zone’?
Question 10: What technological solutions may support the secure, resilient and rapid distribution of logistics material and support to the Army Future Force in 2040?
Question 11: How does the Future Force collect, collate, and process multi-domain Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) data in 2040? What are the likely technical impediments and what might be mitigation?
Question 12: What are the force design implications for a future land force that may have to deal with the ‘primitive’ and ‘high tech’ threats and environments simultaneously?
In the Response, the Tenderer is to state the question being addressed.
A Tenderer can answer one or multiple questions that align with their experience and research interests. The other questions do not have to be addressed.
Alternative research topics
Tenderers are invited to submit any research proposal on any topic that could be considered relevant to the Australian Army with a 5 to 10 year timeframe.

The upper limit for funding individual proposals through the Army Research Scheme is $80,000 (GST-incl).
Note that proposals requesting funding above this limit will not be considered.
