Albury and Lavington CBDs are situated on relatively flat ground surrounded by hills to the north west and east, with the Murray river to the south. The Hume freeway and railway line are to the east, forming a barrier between East Albury and the Albury CBD.
Albury CBD is Albury LGA's largest retail centre with a growing mixed-use and residential periphery. AlburyCity policies seek to grow and strengthen the core of the CBD as the highest order retail destination not only for our own residents, but to service the broader Murray region.
Lavington CBD is a leading location for convenience and everyday shopping, best known for a Centro shopping centre and Coles shopping centre. AlburyCity policies seek to grow and strengthen the Lavington CBD as a second order retail destination.
In 2009, the Albury CBD Masterplan and Lavington CBD Masterplan (the Master Plans) were developed to provide a long term planning framework for both Central Business Districts.
This review is to ensure the Master Plans remain relevant to contemporary community expectations and continue to provide a collective vision that supports cohesive growth and enhancement of our CBDs.
