Tender Description

The University of Adelaide invites you to participate in a Request for Quote for the provision of some vineyard management activities to the University in accordance with the rules and requirements set out in this Request for Quote.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
The University of Adelaide, established in 1874, has over 25,000 students and 3,500 staff and researchers. The University has a strong reputation internationally as a leading research and teaching institution. For more information regarding the University please visit the website

ABOUT THE QUOTE
The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine represents a world-class concentration of scientific research, education and product conferring capability, with infrastructure and resources at the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide with a number of research partners.

The School is the centre piece of the Southern Hemisphere's largest collection of expertise in plant genomics, crop improvement, sustainable agriculture, animal science, dryland farming, horticulture, viticulture and oenology.

The total area managed by the Vineyard & Orchard technical staff covers approximately 7ha. The area is divided into four separate blocks. The Alverstoke Orchard (3.66Ha: 17 different fruit tree species; the Coombe Vineyard (2.5Ha: cultivars of Vitis vinifera and other Vitis spp; the Almond cage (0.37Ha: Research) and the Birksgate Orchard (0.5Ha: olive plantation. The total vineyard area is 3 ha, this includes the Coombe Vineyard and Blocks 1&8 within the Alverstoke Orchard (0.25 ha each).

There are 15 different Vitis vinifera cultivars grown for student use in Winemaking at Vintage and general teaching and research. Each of these varieties represents a different set of challenges as it responds to its environment and the management imposed upon it. Broadly speaking there are 15 discreet areas which require individualised management (e.g. pruning, canopy manipulation, irrigation schedules, mid-row crops etc.). On the other hand some management procedures remain largely uniform (e.g. fungicide programs, soil cultivation, weed control).

The University is looking to procure some of the activities required during an annual vineyard management plan while others will continue to be performed by University' students and staff.
