Tender Description
Increasing supervision capacity of RG Trainees in distributed rural and remote communities. Address barriers to accredited training for RG Trainees, with a focus on the PGY2 training year.
This project will focus on supporting supervisors, general practices and small rural health services so that they can become accredited to supervise trainees across all stages of RG training in each of the training settings including general practice, urgent care and inpatient care as well as residential aged care.
The previous bodies of work (Attachment 1-3) examined the health service capabilities in the distributed communities, including volume and case complexity. Along with this, to achieve accreditation, the next piece of work must explore the supervision elements required for trainees on the VRGP to work towards their RG2 training goals and beyond.
It is important to map out the supervision requirements of the multiple options doctors of different characteristics and interests might pursue at this stage. These include being part of the following programs that articulate with the RG career pathway: PEP, IP, ACRRM, RVTS, RACGP, RJDTIF, MDRAP and PMCV.
Secondly, it is critical to identify what sort of PGY2 step can be used most effectively, where and why based on the chances of accreditation and delivering high quality training. This includes reviewing the current PMCV accreditation requirements for PGY2 and how they can be maximised with alternative supervision arrangements. This also somewhat depends on considering the qualifications of doctors working in these locations, their credentialed specialties and interests in supervising.
Finally, it is important to explore the barriers and enablers to implementing the various pathways and supervision options, so as to achieve the desired training.
This project will be in partnership and collaboration across the following three regions as identified by The Department of Health: Lodden Mallee, South West and Hume Regions.
