This Request For Information (RFI) is a request for New Zealand network operators to provide their current broadband coverage and capacity data to CIP which we will use to update our records, with the intention of targeting funding and avoiding overbuild where possible.
The New Zealand Government (Government) has announced a new Grant Programme which will initially invest $46 million into improving broadband capacity, with the potential for a further $60m to be invested. Providing this information will help to prevent CIP funding networks that may overbuild areas that already have a good broadband service. We do not want to provide Grant Funding to a network operator that would enable that network operator to increase capacity in an area where sufficient capacity is already being provided or will be provided in the medium term by a current network operator. The information we receive will be used to assist consideration and evaluation of responses to the upcoming RFP for the BCP (to be released in March 2021).
