The Waitaki District Council is seeking Expressions of Interest for the role of Independent Member to join the Performance Audit and Risk Committee to the end of this triennium (November 2022)
This is a strategic and significant governance role with accountability to independently assist the PAR Committee to oversee the organisation's financial management, internal control, and risk management practices. This role has full voting rights for the term of appointment.
The Committee reviews the effectiveness of the following:
- Financial performance monitoring and reporting
- Oversight of preparation of the LTP, Annual Report, and other external financial reports required by statute
- Information systems and services delivery and development
- Risk management
- Internal and external audit and assurance
- Monitoring of compliance with laws and regulations
- Significant projects and programmes of work focussing on the appropriate management of risk
- Monitoring and oversight of the Treasury function
Successful candidates will have the following:
- Working knowledge or good understanding of how Local Government operates
- Working knowledge of Audit and Risk Committee practices and risk management frameworks and good practice
- Understanding of internal control and assurance frameworks
- Financial reporting and analysis from a risk perspective
- A good understanding of the roles of internal and external audit
- Ability to understand and analyze financial reports, including an understanding of internal control and assurance
- High business ethics, sound judgment, and common sense
- Ability to think objectively and independently
- Ability to actively participate as part of the committee and work productively and openly with other committee members
- Strict confidentiality
This is a paid appointment until November 2022 - with a minimum of eight meetings per year. Remuneration will be on a per meeting basis plus reasonable expenses. The successful candidate must be able to travel to meetings in Oamaru.
