Primary Maternity Service Provision_Central Otago

Primary maternity facilities need to be located in the right place to meet the needs of the population. Throughout 2020 the Central Lakes Locality Network (CLLN) and Southern DHB have worked together to consult with the population of the area and with maternity professionals and other stakeholders to consider the best options for location of primary maternity facilities to provide services for people in Central Otago and Wanaka.

In November 2020, the Southern District Health Board approved a recommendation to establish one primary birthing unit at Dunstan Hospital grounds, and a second unit in Wanaka, if possible.

In this initial phase, we are seeking expressions of interest from providers who are interested in providing Primary Maternity Services at one or both facilities.
