Newhaven Public Art Commission

⁠⁠⁠Expression of Interest

Council is extending an invitation to suitably experienced artists to lodge an expression of interest to create a contemporary public artwork to be situated in the township of Newhaven.

The Newhaven Public Art Commission Community Working Group has determined the guiding theme for this commission to be a work of poetic intimacy and relevance that speaks directly to the local community.

The Commission Working Group have nominated the grassy foreshore reserve extending around the Yacht Club, with emphasis on the bench seating area near the intersection of Seafarers Way and Forrest Avenue as the preferred location for this Commission. Please note that the foreshore reserve extends from the bridge at Beach Crescent up to Boys Home Road.

The local community is keen to avoid work that may cause disturbance to the coastal views for both walkers and residents. Proposals for artworks that are discreet, intimate and subtle will be favoured in line with the theme of poetic intimacy and relevance to local community.

To register artists are invited to submit a portfolio of previous relevant work and a short statement of intent

The Newhaven Public Art Commission is being delivered as part of Council’s annual Public Art Program.
