Tender ID: 433591
Tender Details
Tender Description
Zoonotic agents in the Australian chicken meat supply chain – identification and risk management options.
This Request for Quotation (RFQ) is seeking services to provide an evaluation of the impact of zoonotic agents on the Australian chicken meat industry as part of AgriFutures Chicken Meat Program:
Zoonotic agents in the Australian chicken meat supply chain: Conduct a desktop study to identify key zoonotic agents, either present or potentially emerging, in Australia with the potential to impact farm and processing staff and recommend appropriate control measures encompassing implications for bird welfare, the environment and human WHS.
The aim of this project is to develop a framework for management of potential zoonotic disease outbreaks in the Australian chicken meat industry and provide guidance on appropriate control measures on-farm and during processing. The project will produce sound, practice advice to guide the response of industry sectors to a zoonotic disease outbreak.
Individuals or organisations making a submission are required to have an understanding of the Australian chicken meat supply chain, zoonotic agents (epidemiology and control), risk assessment, hazard reduction and bird health and welfare.
Project deliverables
The specific objectives of this project are to:
Complete a comprehensive desktop review to identify zoonotic agents (including but not limited to chlamydia, erysipelas, low path AI and coronavirus) that could impact human health and wellbeing on-farm and during processing in Australia.
Undertake a risk assessment, both real and perceived, of the impact of each agent at each stage from the farm, pick-up, transport to processing and processing with a focus on minimising risk to human health.
Document appropriate control measures, ranging from precautionary to amelioration measures (including but not limited to surveillance, appropriate/functional PPE, disinfection measures, physical distancing and bird health both prevention and treatment) for each agent and incorporate these into a risk matrix that includes both a consequence and likelihood assessment to direct required action. Include general control principals for ‘unknown’ agents considering key epidemiological factors relating to human health.
Identify knowledge gaps relating to identification, surveillance, and control of zoonotic agents.
Successful completion of the RFQ will include the applicant’s relevant experience (including two examples of previous work of relevance), detail regarding the planned approach to supplying the project deliverables and an itemised budget including all fees, charges and expenses related to the RFQ.
The budget request for funding is expected to be below $20,000
