The Mike McArthur Bridge is located approximately 8.5km north of the town of Comet on Rileys Crossing Road over the Mackenzie River. The river forms the boundary between the Central Highlands Regional Council (CHRC) and the Isaac Regional Council (IRC). The bridge was built in 2002 by Epoca Constructions Pty Ltd for the then Broadsound Shire Council. The bridge consists of four 15m spans supported on concrete blade piers and abutments. Each span is made up of six prestressed concrete deck units and two outer kerb units.
On 13 April 2006, a truck fire incident caused damage to the bridge, affecting the southern span and particularly the south-eastern kerb unit. CHRC requires works to be undertaken to repair the bridge by removing damaged kerb and deck units from the southern span of the bridge and replacing them with suitably designed alternative units.
