Tender Description
This EOI is issued by KiwiRail through its Operations business operation for the purpose of shortlisting capable parties for Vegetation control of the entire KiwiRail network. The network spans approximately 4586 lineal kilometres of rail corridor nationally.
The contract commences on 1 July 2021 and will be split into 3 geographical areas:
- Greater Auckland/Upper North Island – approx. meterage 1319 km: Otiria to Westfield (NAL) and Branch lines; Auckland Metro lines – Britomart to Papakura; Pukekohe to National Park (NIMT); East Coast Main Trunk (ECMT); Murupara and Branch lines
- Central/Lower North Island/Wellington– approx. meterage 1060km: National Park to Wellington (NIMT) including Wairarapa and all Metro lines; Marton to New Plymouth (MNPL); Palmerston North to Gisborne (PNGL) and Branch lines.
- Upper and Lower South Island/West Coast – approx. meterage 2207km: Picton to Addington (MNL); Lyttleton to Middleton to Invercargill (MSL); Rolleston to Greymouth (Midland Line), Greymouth to Hokitika (Hokitika Line); Stillwater to Ngakawau (SNL); Invercargill to Ohai (Ohai Line) and Branch lines.

2.2. SCOPE OF SERVICES
High level scope of services required comprises of the following:
- HiRail ballast spraying of track network (all lines and loops)
- HiRail mulching and spraying of vegetation encroaching onto the track network
- Herbicide spraying in (292) yards, (10.5 ha) sidings and on (1532) public level crossings (88) private commercial level crossings and (145) public pedestrian crossings
- Mowing, line trimming and boundary spraying in the rail corridor
- Arboriculture services: tree and stump removals, overhead line equipment (OHLE) clearance, safety-related and encroachment and general vegetation pruning/trimming
- Completing tree risk surveys in the corridor and reporting tree/vegetation risks in neighbouring properties
- Level crossing vegetation sightline surveys
- Preparing weekly programmes, monthly and quarterly reports including budget updates
- Trackside vegetation clearance and spraying around signs, signals and communications assets
- Spraying drainage assets and manual clearance to keep
